If you open a project and a file is missing, yWriter will highlight the file in red. If they're all red you've probably renamed the entire folder where the files reside.
You can remove all 'red' (missing) files with a single click. Handy if you've renamed a whole folder, because after removing them all you can add them from their new location with the 'Add Multiple' option.
If you have a technical bent you can also edit the project file manually. Just exit from yWriter, find the YW2 file and open it with notepad. Here you can change the path or filenames at will, but don't delete or add any commas because these are used to separate the fields within the file.
So much for missing files. What about shuffling files within the project? For example, you might decide to bring a scene up in the novel. Right now it's halfway down the file list. All you have to do is left-click the item in the list, then click the ^ button to the left of the grid. Each click will move the file up one slot. The v button does the opposite, moving the selected file down the list.
What about a file that's no longer required? In this case you can select the item and either right-click for the popup menu or click the File menu followed (in both cases) with 'Remove this file'. Note that this does NOT delete the file from disk, it just removes it from the project.
You know how to change a file's description, but what if you want to change the filename? Perhaps it was called Chapter3.txt and now you want to call it Chapter4.txt. Just select the item, right-click and choose 'Rename File'. Enter the new filename and the disk file will be altered to match.
The Search menu will tell you which files contain the given search text. For example, if you know one file has the word 'Banana' in it, but can't remember which, just click Find, enter 'Banana' and yWriter will highlight the first file containing that word. Pressing F3 will find the next, and Ctrl-F3 will find the previous one.
There's another handy option - Renumber Chapter Files. This will change the file description (not name) so that all files containing the word 'Chapter' are renamed as 'Chapter 1', 'Chapter 2' and so on, in order. This is handy if you have 45 chapters in your book, and decide you need another chapter right after number 3. Instead of manually changing all the following chapters, just use this renumber option. (The reason it only renumbers descriptions containing the word 'Chapter' is that you might have files called Prologue, Epilogue and so on. You don't want those renamed.)
